Is clothing on dogs wise? Up until about five years ago I had never really given this much thought. In those days I had a huge dog that was very hairy and robust and the idea that he needed clothes seemed totally ridiculous to me. If anyone had told me that I should get Sparky clothes I would have argued that they were wrong, that Sparky did not need them and that he would be feeling awful in them.
But then I got some little chihuahas, they were very sweet, gentle, laid back little animals, quite different, very easy to frighten or upset. They were a lot more fussy about food and hated to go out. Their idea of a good life was laying on the sofa all the time being cuddled. Exercise and playing were not for them. Where the big hairy dog loved to be out and about and hated to lay around in the warm.
That is when I started to think of getting clothing for dogs, for the two little ones. The local pet shops had nothing that was of any interest, in fact they only had about three different outfits to choose from, and they were all the wrong size as well as being ridiculously high prices. So I went onto my computer and looked up dogs' coats to see what I could find. There was a whole host of choice.
When I saw some of the outfits being sold in the stores online though I felt sorry for some of the poor beasts! Dressing them like frogs, bees, a hot dog, and all sorts of very silly things that not only made them a laughing stock but also must have been hard for them to move in or lay down in.
So my view is that you cannot say it is right or wrong because it depends if the garments are comfy and depends on if the dog is hairy or not and how big it is.
The site I love for dogs' coats now is at this site clothing for dogs is http://www.pineapplepups.com. They understand that dogs need clothes that are very comfortable and cosy, not too hot in summer, warm in winter,
and that some breeds do not need them or want them at all! There is a huge range and you cannot get these anywhere else.
